Light turning with a X2 mini mill

    Hello, first time poster here.

I have a question that may have already been answered but if so I cannot find it.

I have a Grizzly G8689 mini mill and want to do some light turning; I do not own a lathe nor can I justify one right now.

My question is: can I swap the mill’s spindle with one from a 7x mini lathe and use one of the 7x’s chucks?

    Thanks in advance.

No need to go that far, you can use a 3 jaw chuck that fits in the MT3 spindle.
    here's a little 2 incher that would need a 2-3MT sleeve.
    2" Small Lathe Chuck (WT)
    I haven't found a 3 incher already with an MT3 taper, plenty with R8 and 5C.
You could put together your own that could be more versatile for other uses too.
    An MT3 3/4-16 arbor

    a 3/4-16 3 inch chuck adapter
    LittleMachineShop.com - Chuck Adapter, 3/4"-16 Thread 3" Dia 6 Holes
    and a 3 inch 3 jaw chuck
    LittleMachineShop.com - Lathe Chuck, 3-Jaw 3"
or you could go with just the arbor and a taig lathe chuck
Taig Tools - Desktop Milling Machines and Lathes.
    they have 4 jaw too.

If the part is small you could just use collets or ER collet holders.

Hoss, thank you very much that is exactly the information I was looking for.

I think I'll go with the 3/4-16 MT3 adapter and the Taig 4 jaw chuck.

    Thanks again.
