    chuck adapter question

    stupid question, i've got a 16mm drill bit but the widest my drill chuck will open is to 11mm, is there some kind of adapter and if so whats it called. been gogglng for 20mins and still cant find a name.

    yeah funny. seriously... i cant change the chuck, its a battery powered drill, not all that advanced

    Simple, what you need is a reduced shank bit.

    Drill bits have softish shanks, so you can reduce then yourself if you have a lathe.

    i dont have a lathe, so can i buy off the shelf reduced shank drill bits?

    Pretty big drill for a hand drill. Can you get away with a step drill?

    thanks, the step drills a good idea and i saw one for a about 5 dollars(uk) just around the corner. doesnt have to be to precise, but i'll keep an eye out for the blacksmiths bits, by the looks of it eveyone sells em.
