    motors drive board

    Hi.
    I bought four stepper motors from China model 34HST9805-37B2 878 oz/in.
    I need to run those motors at 1000 RPM or more. Motors spec.
    Step angle 1.8 deg
    Rate voltage 6.4
    Rate current 2A
    Phase resistance 3.2
    phase inductance 15
    8 lead wires
    Rotor inertia 1.7 kg/c
    I also have 48v power supply,
    what would be the best driver board for those motors.

    If you used a smaller power supply, the Linistepper (35v max) or SLAm (40v max) drivers would do nicely, depending on your load. If you really need 48 volts, you will want a geckodrive. Motor heating will likely be an issue.

    A more important question is what sort of load will you be wanting to move? This page can help figure out what power supply and driver you really need for that load:

    My CNC router gantry weight will be about 60 lbs. and I need to run it from
    200 to 250 ipm rapid speed with 5 mm pitch ball screw. I just wonder if
    gecko drive g540 would be OK.

    Watts = IPM * Lbs / 531

    so 250 * 60 / 531 = 29

    29 watts at 2 amps is only 14 volts.

    A Linistepper could easily drive that. Actually, the Linistepper would run the motors at 1.5 amps and say 24 volts for more than enough power.

    A g540 would be complete and total overkill... But I'm not going to tell you how to spend your money. The 540 is an excellent driver and will /more than/ manage your needs.

    l also have 4 axis TB6560 driver board for those motors and 12V power supply but I can
    only run those motors at 100 RPM with Mach3,and BPP connection.Am I doing something
    wrong ?

    12 V seems a bit low - I would consider going up to 24 V on a TB6560 board...

    The power supply is 24V not 12V sorry for mistake. I woluld like to know if those motors
    could run more then 100 RPM with TB6560 driver controller.

    You have high Inductance motor so you will need a lot of voltage.

    However the TB6560 will not support such a high voltage - it's risky to go much higher than 24V...

    Higher voltage is only required for maximum speed
    24 volts should be fast enough.

    Please check google for the problems of others have had with those cheap chinese drivers

    Sorry James I'm not trying to talk him out of a Linistepper sale, but just wanted to point out that driving a big size 34 motor at 1000 RPM (16.7 RPS) is very optimistic, and with a size 34 motor with inductance of 15mH it's verging on the impossible (or at least in specialty driver territory).

    Size 34 are best consdered to be larger slower motors.

    He said 250 IPM which is 106mm/sec and with his 5mm lead screws that is 21 RPS of the motors. I think that is completely unrealistic from those motors.

    i would run gecko 201 or 203 drivers and a 70 volt supply,tutorid not linear, to get more torgue at higher speed if you want 200-250 ipm with a 60lb gantry

    you might have to run pulleys and step up to get the speed you want with large motor,say 1:2, 2 being the motor pulley,double start ball screws would have been better
    but,if you use the 201,203 geckos and min 70 volts direct drive you will get at least 150-200 ipm no problem,i have the same motors on my mill with 54 volts and it ran 150 ipm
    all day long,but your gantry mass is more so run 70 volts at least,if you skimp on the drivers you will only burn them out over time

    . Is there a good Calculation for top speed from a given inductance and voltage?

    As long as people don't buy that cheap Chinese crap, i don't care about linistepper sales.

    Not really, it depends on too many other factors and inductance is just one. Basically you have to go from experience with the torque/RPM charts for the different motor sizes.

    The big size34 motors generally run a much higher inducance and larger pole distances and detent forces and will generally not match the high speed performance of a size 23 stepper motor even if the other specs (like inductance or volts/amps) look similar.

    When someone talks about size34 motors doing 20 RPS it rings alarm bells for me... I'm not saying it's impossible, just that the design might need re-examining!
