    Steel router - ball screw and linear slides

    Hello All,

    Its been a while I have been away from the Zone, I have to start to build a new router just to get lot of aluminum parts built for my other builds, so here is what I have designed, Inputs to improve are welcome.

    There's a piece missing

    You need a bar that goes underneath the bed, to connect the gantry to the screw below all that cross-bracing that's supposed to push it around. Is it steel or aluminum, or both? Is everything shown as connected actually welded together?

    For cutting metal your better off with a fixed gantry, moving table. The fixed gantry is much more rigid, and stands up better to the forces that metal cutting takes.

    How wide is your machine? I'd be concerned about racking with the single, center screw.

    Yes there are two tubes below and there will be a steel part milled to get fixed to the ball screw, most of the frame is welded and then gonna be - stress relieved - sand blasted and then painted

    @packrat

    For a fixed gantry machine we need more space which is a premium for me so I have to go with the current design

    @giz

    Width of the machine is 876mm and working width is 750 mm so racking should not be an issue- I think so

    Y axis drive components

    Here is how the Step drive will drive the ball screw, for the Y axis, the Y axis ball screw is a 30mm dia 15mm pitch NSK ball screw with single nut.
