Hi, you might try buying in a 1-1/4" diam drill and turning the 3 Morse taper shank down to 1" diam, as the shank is softer than the drill itself.

The shank will have a centre in the end so you can support the end on the lathe tailstock revolving centre.

Make sure you grip the drill near the flute/shank diameter section and you'll have something to grip it by, and use a four jaw chuck (not a 3 jaw chuck) with copper plates to grip the drill body, and also use a dial indicator to set it up true.

I'm not sure of the diam of the end near the tang to get 1" diam, but I'd weld it up if it was down in size and then turn the lot to size.....but you might not need the diam all the way to the end, anyway the welding won't affect the drill for drilling.
