Random overheat alarm on Okuma lu15 lathe

I'm getting an 4173-21 alarm-d mcs motor overheat on ta axis1. The problem is very intermittent. It will show up after 10 minutes or six hours. It can go a day or two and not show up at all. Any insight would be appreciated.

TA axis is usually the toolchanger or turret
How well has it been maintained ?

there may be some sort of binding ( rust, coolant, swarf, etc )
these need to be checked out before looking deeper

always work from the easiest and cheaoest, before calling for the service guys

I agree with superman, check that. I have however had the same machine problem you have on a customers machine. Was coolant in the motor cables causing it.

Motor was sent out to have windings and thermal sensor checked. The sensor is suspected to be the problem. It can be replaced which is a far cry from 3k for a new motor.
