    various size steppers on one controller

    Is it OK to setup a CNC system with different sizes of stepper motors, to be controlled by Mach 3 with a single controller card?

    I would like to put two stepper motors of 800 oz inch to drive the table and one 275 oz inch stepper motor for indexing.

    The volts and amp requirement for smaller motor is less. Can this motor be connected to the higher voltage power supply?

    Thanks,

    Ross

    As far as I am aware yes. But I think you are missing a link in the chain with your question.

    Computer----->Controller----->Driver------->Stepper.

    So yes you can but you cannot connect to the same driver. On my system, a dual driver flying gantry setup, I am running 2 controllers and 4 drivers. 2 for my y-axis, 1 for x-axis and finally a seperate controller and driver for my z-axis which is and integrated controller and driver and motor.

    It is important to match your drivers to you motors.

    Yes, each motor will be having its matching driver. There will be one power supply matching the bigger motors. This power supply will be 70V.
    The smaller motor is rated 35V, I think.

    I want to know if the driver of smaller motor can be connected to the power supply of the bigger motors?
