Hi Guys,
My physics is a little rusty, but as I remember it, doubling the velocity requires roughly 4x the power, not 8x.
Cheers,

Rolling resistance increases linearly with speed while aerodynamic drag increases with square of speed. Therefore takes eight times the power to double the speed.

If you don't believe it Google it. That is why in example Bugatti Veyron (that is not much bugger than Miata) needs 1000 HP to reach its top speed despite its good aerodynamics.
