    Sorry for all the questions, but I guess that's why we're here.... My mill has 1000 pulse per rev encoders on it now. But who's to say that I also need a 1000 pulse encoder on the 4th axis rotary table? At this point I really don't know what I need there and really need to see if I can change the steps per degree on the W axis setup in the AB control.

    It depends on what resolution you require and if scaling is possible, it should be in AB.
    I have never integrated an AB or even done much work on them, they are scarce around here.
    But I am sure they will also multiply the quadrature pulse x4 as most systems do to get maximum resolution from the encoder.
    Also if the encoder is on the motor and there is gearing between it and the table this will also increase resolution.
