    Custom milling on Aluminum

    Hey guys,

This is my first post, so be gentle

I dont know a lot about machining so i need some advice please.

I have a block of metal (aluminum) i want to have cut down to some exact specs. It will includes very detailed scrollwork (etchings).

I am unsure how to do this. I called a waterjet company and he said they could only make straight cuts and not do any engravings with it. He said to use a saw then polish it down. Then maybe have a laser for engraving? Is this correct?

I am trying to make a prototype of thehead part Thor movie hammer. I will be through with the 3D Cad file today with all the specs. I am attaching a few photos to give you an idea of what i am trying to do with an 8.5"x5.5"x5" block. It already has basic dimensions of what i want. One of the photos show detail work on side engraving.

    Thanks for any assistance.

any 3 axis cnc mill should do what you need just fine. as far as the scroll work again you need a 3 axis mill and a decent cad cam program. the engraving on the top same thing 3 axis mill.
