I am currently looking at the various card options for emc2 on a knee mill. So far the Mesa cards seem to have what I am looking for, specifically, differential encoder inputs and 24V sinking I/O.

Unfortunately, I have a pile of almost adequate breakout boards that I've purchased over the years. None of them, nor the step/dir software they were made for, have performed to my satisfaction. I would prefer to get some opinions before investing in more boards.

I've never done an emc2 build and have yet to see evidence in support of one card over another. Would anybody care to comment on their experiences with Mesa, Pico, STG, etc?

I would say Mesa hardware is taking a lead in use on newer conversions.

On my little scratch build conversion of a manual to CNC machine I am using Mesa for the I/O but most likely the Pico systems servo amps.

On my Hurco - when the OEM Intel 80386 control finally dies I will use Mesa hardware to drive the existing servo amps.

With EMC2 you have nearly unlimited options.
