    Failed transformers?

    My basement contains a quantity of transformers that were left over from an electronics repair shop of many years ago. There are all sizes from a few ounces to one guy who's about 20 lbs. They appear to have been collected as they were replaced. What I'm wondering is in what way to transformers generally fail? Should I be able to rebuild them into working transformers?

    Usually shorted turn due to overheating, if they are square lamination type, they would be a royal pain to rewind, this type is usually made by winding the bobbins first and then the stack is built into them, if they are toriod, you may me able to do something but it can be labour intensive.
