    Metal monster, pictures added

here is my latest creation and let me tell you, dealing with heavy metal is ......well hard! yesterday i was so tired that i went out for a coffe. today is the 5'th day working on this preject and it is coming out nicely, the z axis i had ready made just needed to drill holes, the y axes got done and tested today, did precision testing on it and after 15 back and forth movements of 1 meter it parked itself on 0, that is measured with a scale of 0.01 mm, and it was expected to be like that since i am using 38mm NSK screws with double ball nuts. Again sorry for the pictures but my bro has snached both nikon cameras ( D50 and D5000 ) so expect better pictures tomorrow.Rails are hiwin 25mm so everything on this build costs an arm and a leg. Initialy it will be driven by NEMA 34 steppers and geckodrive G212 to be later replace by G320 and servos.
P.S. attaching photos not working !!!

Sounds massive! Did you shrink the pics to 1000 pixels wide?

First off....I swear I saw a router being held on to some sort of machine with electrical tape!!! And would you let me move my shop in to a corner of your massive amount of space! WOW what a great workshop! I love it. And the machine your building looks great! Cant wait to see it cut.

    LOL lol lol

Although not tape, some kind of belt i got with a huge subwoofer i had installed in my now late AUDI, i have 2 of them .....belt's not woofers.
The good thing about the workshop : space over 80 square meters at 3.8 meters high, the bad: i am still paying for it !!! I took a bank loan so i have to cough up 233 euros every month.
    Back to the build.
You will have to wait for those cuts since i am still waiting for some thinner and longer screw/nut and 4 more carriages, but if i don't get them in 2-3 days i will mount the ones i have and learn to live with 140X110 cm work area for the time being.

Almost forgot, i am very interested in finding someone in europe that has spare cnc part for trade or sale. I have a lot of stuff as you can see in the pictures and a lot more in boxes and drawers, not only for cnc but also laptop and computer, car, audio video, photocopier, UPS, electronics parts etc etc, so just ask and i just might have something that you need.
Most of the stuff i don't use i am willing to give for free, postage and handling included.

Now the stuff i DON'T have and i urgently need:
    Couplings,
    Cable carriers,
NEMA 42 servo motors with or without encoders,
    L297/L298 IC
    ..............
i will add more stuff as i go.

    Regards,
    Tom.

Painted in red after succesfull testing.

    Hi there,
here are some pictures of the current state since i have disassembled everything and painted it red, so now i am putting it back together and adding the necessary limit switches.
I've been also thinking of covering it with thin aluminum sheet or thin metal sheet that come in different colors. Also i have to build a table for work holding but that is a tough decision since it will have to do a bit of wood but lots more of plastic and aluminum sheet, so any suggestion is more than welcome.
    Regards,
    Tom
    P.S.
Sorry i forgot to mention that i already tested it and it does a nice job at cutting plastic 10mm thick in one pas with a 8mm end mill @650mm/min feed rate. Being as i only have 4 carriages i could not push it further but i bet it will do way faster since the crappy router is a 1200W / 34000 RPM ,but i don't think the bearings will last long at that speed.

Ok- How are you running your control on a HU? That is a really awesome idea, and being that my best friend owns a car audio business, I would like to know how to do this!

Also what do you do in your shop other then build CNC's that looks like a little wonderland of deceased electronics and fun! machine looks great btw

HU ???? >head unit, like the car monitor installed in the computer?
it is a computer car monitor and radio, nothing more so no CD no DVD nothing, just two audio/video inputs, one VGA input, one USB connector for touchscreen, and an input for a reverse camera. it also has 4 speaker outputs and an A/V output. Soooo now i can just attach 4 speakers and blast the music while the cnc is doing it's job.
As for what i do in the shop it's a long list, but to keep it short, i am very good at electronic, computer hardware, cars, basically anything electro-mechanical i can figure out in minutes ( i had a very good/bad experience 2 years ago when my brother was sick with gylian-barre syndrome and was attached to a lot of equipment to keep him alive for 15 days and monitor his condition, but the good thing was i could walk up to any of those equipment have a look and be setting up the parameters in seconds, that in turn made me a sort of trainer for the staff there since this is a post-war state and the staff is still not trained to use the new equipment they got in the last 3 to 5 years).
I have worked for some of the biggest organizations in Europe including United Nations and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe as an IT/COMMS technician and network administrator, i owned 3 computer shops after the war and and car audio/alarm system shop before the war.
    I think i over did it !!!
Back to the subject of CNC building, tomorrow i am getting another 4 meter HiWin 25mm rail, 3 carriages, a 3m long 25mm ball-screw and a ball-nut, another ELTE hi speed spindle and some cable carriers at 7 cm wide, and some other stuff.

Thanks a lot for reading/commenting/suggesting etc, i really appreciate it.

    Regards,
    Tom

    Hi tommylight,

Where did you buy HiWin 25mm ball-screw and a ball-nut and how much cost. Is it with end machined.

In Peja, Kosovo, where i currently live, found them at a car manufacturing factory that got totally dismantled and sold for scrap ( the whole factory got bought for 2.5 mil. euros and sold for over 20 as scrap !!!!!). I got decent discounts since these are new parts they got last year when they where still trying to manufacture something, so i got the rail for 50 euros a meter, carriages 50 a piece, ball screw 70 a meter, ball nut 120 ( it is double), the ELTE spindle for 200 with no guaranties etc etc.
    Regards,
    Tom

    more stuff

    Hi
Today i finally got the parts that i was waiting for so here are some pictures, i did not get the cable carrier but i got 2 4 meter long 8020 aluminum profiles sized 45x90mm so that made me a happy camper since it can not be found around here at all.
    Yo ToneV8:
where are you in slovenia??? i was a soldier there in 1990 and i was there when the first military helicopter got shot in town at the crosing of "oraznova" and another street i forgot the name.
As far as ball screws go, find a friend or someone with a decent lathe and google how to machine a ball screw, anything over 50 euros is way to much.
    In the pictures:
The balls crew 25x5mm 3meters long, 2x4 meter long 8020 at 45x90mm, double ball nut,
also 2 shorter ball screws with double ball nuts ( pictured one nut ), 6 carriage holders, Y axis rails and carriages mounted, 4 g320 drives, 3 g212 drives, one g540 mounted to a piece of wood with relays and power supply for testing purposes, two 24V 4.5A power supply's, one 5V 8A, 12V 2A, -12V 0.5A, 25V 17A power supply ( i have 3 of these),
    the ELTE 0.8KW spindle ( now i have 2 ) and a VFD good for 1.5 KW ( roughly 2 HP).
Also i have a video of this build working before the paint job so i will upload it to my server if anyone is interested.
I almost forgot, i also got a 4 meter long HiWin 25mm rail, but i have no more carriages and i am missing one on the Y axis as you can see in the pictures.
Also if anyone can point me to a nice machine built from 8020 i would appreciate it since now i have 8020 and 4 meters of rails so i can build something while i am waiting for the carriages. It needs to be something decent and sturdy for that spindle and capable of doing aluminum. I need maybe a week or two to completely finish this build, and then i will most probably start the 8020.
Again, i have gone from a sloppy fist build to an engraver to a decent small mill to a plasma ( 2.5X1.5 meters) to this build in over a year, not to mention i have build and dismantled some 4 or 5 other cnc, but i have done nothing, absolutely nothing that can be qualified as work with them.
Feel free to criticize, i need that !
    Later,
    Tom
