    Milling 15-5Ph

I have a customer that wants us to make a part out of 15-5ph. It will require milling of slots, profile cutting, drilling, reaming and broaching. What is your expierience cutting this material. We cut alot of 304SS, is it comparable to that. Cut wet with variable helix carbide tooling...

    15-5

According to the specs at aksteel.com, its just a ferrite free version of 17-4. Use carbide tooling with sharp edges(minimum edge prep) and a quality coolant such as syntillo 9913. Myself, I would use TIN coated endmills rather than TIALN. High speed machining is ideal for this type of material. I have a video on youtube that shows what can be done with 17-4 ss. Good luck.

thanks. When we cut other SS like 17-4 or 304 we use SGS z carb endmills. The are nothing short of amazing. When we first started cutting with them I was like no way you can run it at that speed/feed DOC at 100% engagement
