Drawing 3D foam wing cores for RC airplanes V23

    Hello,

I'm trying to draw a foam wing panel for an RC airplane. So far I have extruded a 2d shape. But I still need to:

    1. Taper the end, it's 10" at the root, 7" at the tip.
    2. Sweep the wing back - the tip is 5.5 inches back from the root.
    3. Add spar holes - remove cylinders from the middle of the wing.

Here are finished ones I cut by hand: Tuffwing-Easy to Fly, Hard to Break RC Flying Wing EPP Foam.

I will be cutting them on a 4 axis wire foam cutter. I have the Wire EDM.

    Tips? Thanks!

Not sure you are looking for "Tips" outside of BobCad since you posted this in the BobCad section but you might want to consider other software that is dedicated for the job you are doing.

Profili for doing wings and DevFus for making fuselages makes quick work of both.

Profili 2.0 - wing airfoils managing, drawing and analysis software

Tjzoide is also something you might want to look at for cutting foam wings and fuselages.

Thanks luvbug, Yeah, I have Profili, and it's easy to make a panel, but it doesn't give me the control I want to cut multiple panels at once. I'm really hoping to get good enough at BobCAD to make other foam items as well.

you were on the right track
i just made up a end profile with spline
translated y - 12 +x 6 to where end of wing would be
made a copy positioned at 0 for center of wing (assuming end and center are same)

so you have the center profile and end profile (offset)
do a cross section should give the shell of wing
put the end wire on a seperate layer out of the way
extract edges single each end of the wing
    then planar surface
stitch together all should have a solid
mirror this with copy for other half of wing
boolean add should have 1 solid
not knowing the size of where the motor goes i made up some cubes
and boolean sub till i got the look of the opening
if you have that profile of that cut out you could position it and extrude curve
    then subtract that away

    this should be confusing enough

    Interesting software Profili,
If you need any cheap advice I've done wings for real aircraft,
On basic CAD software, no need for single purpose software.
    NACA curve formulas, etc.
    Molds for all types.
