    EMC2 and G540 help needed. Wrong way Homie.

    I'm having trouble setting up ECM2 to do Homing correctly, no matter what I do, when it goes to set the Home position, it moves the wrong direction.

    For example, the X axis, I've got 2 micro switches at each end, wires up in a series. One wire hooked up to ground, the other to pin 10 of my G540.

    ECM for the pin 10 is set up as "Both Limit and Home". (I've tried different settings)

    X axis is currently set up as:

    Home Location = 0
    Table Travel = 0 to 25.5
    Home Switch = 0
    Home Latch Direction = Opposite

    I've tried changing all kinds of things around, Home Location to 25.5, Home Latch Direction = Same, different settings for pin 10. But no matter what I do, when I tell ECM2 to set the home, it moves the X axis away from "0", and I can see on the computer screen it moving away from the "0" position.

    Even more fun, if I click the micro switch, the X axis stop and then EMC2 thinks it jump backwards several inches and is now at the correct home position.

    So, how do I make EMC2 go the other direction for home?

    Thank you.

    hi, how are you.

    to answer your question you first need to make sure that your axis is in the correct direction. you can change direction by ticking the box next to the
    direction pin in the pinout page of the config utility, it inverts the axis.

    you can tell by jogging that you are going in the right direction.
    different type machines will be configured differently.

    next, the axis's that go in the wrong direction can be told to go toward the home switch by changing the 'home search velocity' to a negative figure.

    good luck and be patient. you should hold you finger on the stop switch as you get to work.

    on a milling machine, typically the x and y axises are inverted in the pinout page.
    on my fixed gantry router the z is the only one inverted.
    it is matter of mechanics that you invert the axis and is not a fix for your homing question.

    also the home search velocity is perhaps not a permanent solution, it is just something that you do when trying to setup and are a bit confused.

    Specify the home_search_vel and home_latch_vel as negative

    I.E.
    HOME_SEARCH_VEL = -.25
    HOME_LATCH_VEL = -.15

    Should be in your .ini file.. Each axis should have those entries.

    EMC2 is an open source Enhanced Machine Controller
    LinuxCNC.org - Home

    I sense some confusion.
    Anyone who says "It only goes together one way" has no imagination.
