No holding torque on my stepper, she's a 1200oz!

Just hooking up my first every stepper. I am running gecko 202's. I can' get a holding torque. What will cause this situation and what are the steps to fix a drama like this?

forgot to mention that I have a 5vdc + going to the common on the gecko. It comes from a seperate mini power supply, cnc4pc.com

Generally no holding torque indicates that the phases are not energized.
