Hello and thanks in advance for any help.
I am new to CNC turning. I have been getting use to the control on the Haas TL-2 in particular the IPS quick programing layer.
I have been able to setup the tools and the offsets and use the canned operations. I have one problem that is driving me nuts.
When I setup an OD turning cycle (G71), the machine cuts air for several passes , for example:
start diameter: 2.000
Final diameter: 1.75
Depth of cut: .010
Feed: .005
The cut always starts about .050 larger than the start diameter. So in the example above the canned cycle would start and progress like this:
X= 2.050
X= 2.040
X= 2.030
X= 2.020
X= 2.010
X= 2.000
X= 1.990 (finally removing stock)
The final diameter turns out fine.
I cannot figure out where the "boy now that was stupid" ah ah answer is. Does it have to do with the retraction clearance maybe?
