    first parts

here are some of the part that i have made with my converted Lathe.

i am in the process of building a wheel hub for my road bike. The small shaft is the main shaft and the large part is the hub before the drilling the flanges. i plan to make another hub as the initial chucking caused damage to one of the flanges. so far the total weight is 78g for the two parts and the bearings.

What do you weigh? I am a Clydesdale and dont like breakage. No titanium spindles for me due to a nice scar on the inside of my leg as my "dangly" bits were violently smashed onto the top tube. Hell that memory hurts! That was on a mountain bike though. Day started by breaking the lightweight seatpost. Ripped it out and continued the ride because I was feeling great, til the spindle mentioned above broke. Have you ever noticed that bad luck comes in 3's?

I hope so and I do agree a road bike shouldnt inflict the same kinds of loads. Plus I am in the 240 range.

    Superb looking hub! Well done!

Also, I love how radial spokes look for front wheels. There's no was I could lace like that on my downhill mtb.

Fantastic job, I love the rich red anodising! I'm really keen to have a go at anodising myself when I've finished my workshop, I've heard it's not as hard as it seems?

    cheers,
    Ian

I did have the advantage that the material was the anodizing grade, which is not the best for machining and mechanically.

Do you have any photo's of your lathe, tooling setup etc. What program are you using to create the machining code?
    Nice job on the hubs.

I machined them and glued and press fitted them onto the end caps and not had any issues with them.
