    best practice

    Hi!

    I have a 4020 with 88HS in shop now. Few days before I work with a
    Hurco VMX24 - so far so good.

    Now there are some litte questions, I can't solve with manuals alone.

    1) I put the tools in ATC, take it with TC,1 out, jog it to a measuring
    device (50mm) on the table and use SL,x. x for the toolnumber. In
    Tooltable I subtract the 50mm, so the tools are measured to table.

    2) With a 3D-taster (edgefinder...) I jog now X, Y and Z to the part and set
    the axis with SETX, Y and Z to zero. The 3D-Edgefinder is in tooltable with
    toollength too. I pick it with TC,1 - move turret to 21 and press MANUAL.

    3) In programm I use for example M6T1, G0Z10H1.

    Thats the theorie.

    Well - is this the "best" practice to work? Better to use the fixtures? But how does it works?

    Usually Z0 is at the tool change position.

    So I should not use SETZ?
    Z0 ist machine-Zero?

    Yes; make sure Z reads 0 at the tool change position. Set the tools above the part ( SL,), H will bring the tool to that position; then inside your program you call the depth.
    If Z0 is on top part, the headl will come down to that positon right after a tool change, will not give a chance to stop it if something is wrong.

    Ohh yes - that's an argument!

    Okay - an now I have to set the corner of the workpice as fixture, right?
    So I think i have to use G54 to get this fixture in the program?

    Hi!

    Okay - thanks for the infos.

    Is there a chance to have the workpice-coordinate-systen on the screen?

    When display say -254.678 I don't know if this ist okay. But if I have
    the workpice-zeropoint in it it would show for exaple -10.000. So I
    can check the right position of the tool if I jog the machine.

    You know what I mean?

    The only time that you can see the coordinates is by typing SETcs (cold start, machine home) make sure the tool is a the program Home. After that is no return, the machine will shift to the cold start position, so you have to Cold Start it again and will show the las position.
