    Revamp Existing Machine

    Hey,

I hope someone here could help me out. We have an existing industrial size hot wire cutting machine which was custom built some years ago. The guy that made it is no longer around and the board that drives the whole thing has now had it.

As the board was also custom built, we can not get a new one. We would like to swap it out with another one which I am hoping you guys can help me with.

Please view the photos attached of the machine and the existing components and please recommend a board to sit between the computer and the motors. The software side of things is not so much of a problem as I can develop this to suit our current needs.

But the hardware is where I fail. I can give more details if anything else is needed.

    Thanks for any help.

    Dan.

    Hi Dan.
I Looks like you have ordinary steppermotors and some limit switches.
It is not the cheapest way but it is probably the fastest way for you to get it on the run again.
Take a look at: Geckodrive G540
    G540 4-Axis Motor Control
I am using it in our Plasmacutter, inside the G540 there are four G250 and im using them in my Foamcutter and in my small cncmill.

We manufacture hot wire cnc cutters. We have a custom controller that will run unipolar stepper motors up to 9 amps per phase. They are for use with mach3. Also comes with a joystick.
That being said. there are a lot of places where you can get controllers (including Ebay). Just make sure they are rated for the right current. Just, Google stepper motors and there is a lot of info how to wire.
If you need any help I will try to help you, just PM me.
