Will,
You said your base was 52.5" along the X axis.
If you get a chance can you tell me that dimension (edit: length) of the X axis extrusion supplied by XYZ?
Thanks,
BobL.

Bob,
You should be able to get the info off the drawing I hope.
Will
Great, thanks Will.

Will,
I think using the 4080 for the legs is a good idea. That should stiffen them up. I feel that mine spring around a bit on acceleration and deceleration. I am also thinking that closing in the sides with some plywood would really stiffen it up and prevent any racking that might occur.
I hope your extrusion arrives so you can get back at building.
Bob I am surprised they only have one drawing.
Dave
Will,
Looking at the drawing you posted it struck me that the 8020 extrusion must be all that if what you posted was the entire base assembly.
Considering that it is a machine base for a machine that is NOT static that stuff must bolt together very solidly for that simple of a frame to do the job.
If I can afford the 8020 I will be putting in more legs for other reasons, so mine should work great for a machine half the size of yours. (2'x4').
BobL.
Bob,
Yes the machine will bolt to the top of the frame like Dave did. I plan on adding some vertical supports I'm making out of baltic birch plywood. I also may inclose part of it also. I have some ideas of what to do but can't until I get the frame and machine mounted on top.

Painting cross beams made from baltic birch plywood to go under top

Going to try this for my Y buttons. May not work but was cheap. I think it was a 1/2" nut with washer built in. I bored out the threads so the metric cap screw would fit in. Not knowing how the sensors work I will give it a try

Will,
I think your parts will work good.
Is that an M8 hole for your fake prox switch.
Your machine shop works great. ;-)
Dave
Thanks Dave,
Yes an M8 to get my spacing sort of worked out
Got my electrical today from Jeff at Soigeneris. I am dead in the water on my build. Seams 8020 cannot ship as fast as they say. Can't do anything more till I get my base....... will keep you posted!

Will,
Looks good.
I am around for the afternoon.

My base came late Friday, packed it in the truck and went to the lake. Saturday morning I put the base together. As you can see I have level casters that will lock the machine down and level at the same time if needed.

Sunday returned home and did more work. Had to take a few parts off to slide in tee nuts

Will,
That looks very impressive.
Those casters are very interesting.
Your crosspieces look like they belong there. How did to attach them to the side rails?
That's going to be so nice looking when you are finished you won't want to use it.
Dave
Will,
I agree with Dave, sure does look nice and those casters look sweet.
BobL.
Thank Dave and Bob,
The casters are from woodcraft and a lot cheaper than getting them from 8020. I even was able to get them on sale. Dave, the cross members are not attached yet, just sitting there. Will use the angle brackets with tee nuts to the 8020 and lag screws into the baltic birch. Just got back from the store getting the screws.
