    Exclamation VMC 4020 to RS232 /serial/ cable

    Hi !

Ive a VMC4020 /ht/ in workshop. Tried to connect to PC.

Acually it is a laptop with USB-RS232 converter. it have worked fine with cisco devices. router , switch etc.

So i did connected it to fadal but it didnt worked. I guess some pins are not at the desired place. There is only 5 wires connected to the DB25 outlet.

    RED , BLUE , BROWN , GREEN , YELLOW
Yellow is Ground thats for sure.

RED is connected to PIN 3
    BLUE pin 4
    BROWN pin 2
    GREEN pin 20
    Yellow pin 7

    According to User manual ....Pin1-shielded, pin2-TX, pin3-RX, pin4-RTS, pin7-GND, pin20-DTR

    Is this correct ?

    Question step 1

    HI !

Ive made some progress. 1st the cabel was OK but the 9to25 converter mades a cross connection so the TX went to TX so it did not worked at all. Ive soldered the fadals cable to work OK.

But there is a problem again. If i connect the serial cable to fadal it goes "nervous" the sound of the servo cards changes and the servos are jumping sometimes a bit. When sending data or fadal is sending to PC the sound goes normal again. but in IDLE connection the CNC is wispering...

It is a shielding , or grounding problem ? Or whats going on ?

    Hi!

I had a similar problem. Once you plug the cabel from PC to the 4020
the keyboard on the Fadal not responding properly.

I think there are irridations on the RS232 from the Fadal so the machine
"listen" to the interface. I've use several cabels - nothing happens.

The I use a bluetooth-connection with two little converters (RS232-Bluetooth).
Now it seems all is fine.

    Bye

    Hello Thomas !

can you describe the serial connection with the bluetooth module ?

I have a bluetooth panel with a serial conn on it. On the PC side it is good to have a simple BT dongle /like a pen drive but smaller/. ? Or some special stuff is needed ?

    Hi!

I use two "BT-BluSer1" from BlueSerial Bluetooth Products for RS232 Cable Replacement, high range for Industrial Automation, Medical, Automotive.
It works fine, so the PC has a serial-interface over bluetooth and
    the fadal-dnc-software works fine.

So a normal BT usb device will be ok for it ? Some kind a virtual PRG is needed to emulate a COM port on pc ?

DO you use MSN or Skype ? Or something else ?

    HI ...

So you plugged a device to PC's serial port /DB9/ and one device to fadals db25 or db9 port ?

I got this "system" : PC has a USB BT "dongle" Fadal has a BT to Serial converter.

I got some data flow dut it aint right somhow. Sometime i get parity error , sometimes manly crap. crap is random letters , signs etc... so no real data for fadal... what can be wrong here ?

    Hi!

What software do you use? I have tested it too and with nc-fadal
i cant send programms. seems the virutal com-port on pc is not
    "good" for nc-fadal.

second i use a "dongel" on pc too (use n,8,1 - its "the same" as e,7,1)
and it runs fine. the pc use a serial port or a usb-serial adapter.

    bye

okay - i see, we come to no right way.

    another idea:
there is an option for fadal you can use a simple usb-stick and plug it
directly to the fadal. then you can load the programm from the stick.
please conact your local fadal-dealer for details.
