Nice build! Are you using steel for the gantry too?
Anything is possible, just build it!

Yes the gantry will be steel. We will be using the tables for plasma and router table. Here is the link to the first table i built, http://www.cnczone.com/forums/plasma...d_4x10.html.It will be very similar to this table

    Nice!!!!

    Dnelso,

Your build looks very nice... I followed your entire first build with interest. Ive noticed you made a few minor changes but overall kept the same exact design as #1. I like your lcd monitor stand, I bet alot of people miss that in the photos. Good Luck...

thanks dustin and Boogiemanz. I only changed a few things on theses tables. The table is 5x10 the old table was 4x10. The gantry is also 3 inches higher.I want to use a 4th axis for notching tubing on these tables. I still have to machine a few more pieces and am waiting on the water trays. Here are a few pics of the progress.

Dave, I have been getting to do a little on my machine. I don't have the benefit of a floor plate like yours and squaring and and leveling is a lot tougher. I used 4x8 tubing because I had it, and put an 1/8 bottom in it for a water bed. I used an 80/20 brand slotted extrusion in a 1"x3" configuration to keep my linear rails and 1/2" gear rack parallel, and am in the process of getting them fastened to the sides of the table.
I noticed you have added more adjustment on these tables. I'll probably be doing that in a couple of weeks. I appreciate your sharing.. you are sure helping me..............john

Hi guys first time poster long time lurker, just doing my homework - hopefully starting a build soon.

Dave, can you please tell me more about your linear guides and rails, sizes on X and Y, Hiwin HG I presume, load type, preload code. I also noticed you used flange type guides on this build? Do you think there would be any advantage of using twin rails on the x axis for routing. Great build Dave, looks very professional.

Here are the rails that we used. The first table i built used 25mm rails. These rails are 30mm and were cheaper.I like the flange mounts. I have used the router to cut wood and some alum. For what i cut i don't see a need for 2 rails on the x axis.

No major progress. Got all the racks mounted on both tables. I like the rails with the rack on them i just wonder what the cost is. They are hardened so the gear would wear and the rack wouldn't that's good.

I dont think ill be getting those $660.00 per metre $99.00 per block. I would like to come up with a way to make the racks adjustable or do you think it would not be necessary ? Does your pinion keep the same backlash the full length of the table.

I had a feeling they would be expensive. When i mount the rack i used a machined spacer off the rails so the spacing is the same the length of the rail.If the spacing is correct you will not have any backlash issues. I tried a spring mounted gear reduction box on a different project and had to run a lot of spring tension to get the backlash out. The pinion gears showed a lot of wear in a short period of time. With this system i don't have those problems.
