Losing my "Y" zero position after power down.

Hello everyone. I 'm working on a Haas VF-6. Lately after powering up the machine it has lost its Y location. Today it was about .475 off and was similarly off the day before. I can re-dial in to the reference hole and it will make perfect parts all day. If I power it down then back up though, I'm sure it will be off again. Does anyone have an idea what this problem is? It has a brand new servo amp on this axis by the way. Thanks for any help you may provide!!

Metal chips on the Y axis home switch or switch actuator?

If you have the roller type switch, it is most likely sticky. If you have a proxy switch, it could be chips as previously mentioned.

Another thing to check would be any slop in the y-axis ball screw. Perhaps one of the locking nuts has worked loose. Do you have any backlash?

If it is holding accuracy though, my money would be on the switch.

Thanks everyone. I guess I was fooled since, in the past, when a chip has been on the prox sensor after startup, the machine throws a "servo error too large" alarm. This time it didn't. I'm machining an access hole into the way cover after I pull them back. The covers and seals are in perfect condition but we're still getting chip intrusion. Thanks again guys and I'll check-in with an update.
