one idea i have.. weldable primer? any other suggestion??
zinc plating would be good but 5 by 10 foot is quite large to do that job..

What about using zinc blocks as a sacrifical anode like they do in ships? I dont know how effective that would be? You may have to isolate the table from the ground so that it is not grounded or something? Input?
If you add antifreeze or cutting-fluid (the type where you mix it with water) it will solve your problem without having to coat the surface.

Check out powder coating for the container. It may be more costly BUT it is virtually bullet proof once applied and cooked.
We used it on some grinding wheel shields on our cam grinder. In spite of horrible impingment of water and grit by the 18" dia wheel spinnning at 1800rpm, the stuff still is there - no paint we tried would/could stay.
If you can get away with antifreeze, that stuff will do a nice job of preventing rust, for a while. You do have to watch the PH factor of the water.
You might also look into the use of water based cutting/grinding fluid (we use/like Valenite VNT700). In the proper sollution - it won't rust iron or steel cams which will rust HORRIBLY easily when exposed to plain water.
