9207 Tail Stock not in position HiT 18S

My machine is finally at a point where I can run a program. However, nothing works until I put the tail switch in the "CLAMP" position and move the tail spindle until the forward (closest to the chuck) prox switch activates.

I suspect there is some setting that tells the machine that I am doing tail stock work and won't run until the center is against the work.
My documentation shows very little in the operation or programming regarding using the tail stock. My machine has both power tail spindle and power tailstock. The manual only shows the manual tailstock.

Grateful in advance for any guidence. I have the Siemens control.

Tape a piece of shim stock or tin foil to the prox that is needed, and call it done. Rube Goldburg method.

There is another door below the one you have open and the plungers get stuck.
Open it and lube the plungers and move body back against rear stop.

Yeah, I got those fixed weeks ago. Both stuck, springs rusted to bits.
I had both the tail spindle and tail stock switches in the middle position. The machine likes the tail stock swithch to the right (retract)
From the looks of it, when I am using the tail stock, those switches must be in the left (extend) position, and the left most prox switch in both need to be activated, no?

When not using the tail the right hand switch must be made so machine knows it's fully retracted.
