RFQ for Wood (Poplar) Blocks (CNC Router)

PROJECT ON HOLD DUE TO TOLERANCE ISSUES

    Hi,
I need a couple of you to quote for the attached part drawing number "R-100". I need a quote for qty. 5, 10, 50, 100 total "bulk" lowest cost (no need to individually package) packaging shipped cost to US zipcode: 97132
I estimate 0.5 lbs for each machined block.

Attached are DXF, STP, and PDF drawing files with all manufacturing data.

Please PM me with your numbers or if you have any questions.

Please indicate your terms and payment requirements.

Please be sure you can hit the tolerances (holes especially as this a check fixture) as specified on the drawing.

    Thank you kindly,

    cpy911,

I'm not sure you want to use poplar as a check fixture, especially with these tolerances. Just humidity changes will place this part out of specification, especially with the three decimal tolerance from the title block of +/-.01 in wood.

I would be interested in looking at this more for the large CNC router, but I would never commit to tolerances of these values in a wood material. If you could open the tolerances, then wood is a better possibility, if you can live with the expansion and contraction of the material.

Depending on what you are checking, I would suggest aluminum at a minimum for checking a softer material. Realistically, a hardened steel gage or fixture would be required.

If these are going to be for a fixture, do you really want to use poplar? It is not very stable, especially with humidity changes etc... Would you want these parts sprayed with a clear finish at least to seal the wood?

Thanks for the replies! On hold....for now

I am going to have to rethink this with the tolerances and the wood material.
I may have to go Aluminum material with a redesign to smaller part to check fewer features at a time.

This project is put on hold for time being...

Thanks for the replies and quotes.
