looking for fellow users of hypermill by open mind software
technologies.
I asked this awhile ago and didn't get any answers. I was investigating what was on the market besides the usual.
How is service in this country? I found the German site by accident. It is customized to your specific applications I take it?
Someone named Carl at Eastec was the one who told me about it.
I've lost his card. Who is reseller?

I don't know if there are resellers anywhere, I have always dealt
direct with these guys. I like the software personally, but I have used it for years so I am probably biased.

Do you use it with think3's thinkdesign or whatever Open
Mind calls it when they repackage it ? If you have used it
for years it's probably more like you run HyperMill in
AutoCAD MDT. Would I have that right ?

There is Jon, Think3 I have had a chance to play with that in the past . it wasn't that bad at all.
But has not taken off by what I have seen.
Jon your thoughts?

CAD/CAM as well as many / most high end CAD/CAM programs
because of Global Shape Modeling and the person who is
behind it. Genius. Has no peers AFAIC. You simply can do
things with Global Shape Modeling that you can't do with
anything else. This is why Buell Motorcycle is so committed
to it and so is Open Mind.
Buell is owned by Harley Davidson. Harley Davidson is a
Pro/E house so you can imagine how good thinkdesign really
is and how hard think3 must have had to work to land them.
The best way to understand Global Shape Modeling (it works
on dumb imported surfaces and you can even add constraints
to dumb imported surfaces to make them smart) is to view the
Global Shape Modeling video's on think3's website. If you
want more I have the FTP site with tons more Global
Shape Modeling videos on it.
thinkdesign is also used by Pininfarina who designs among
many other things Ferrari bodies.
The draw back is that think3 in the U.S. is not very
interested in marketing to small businesses. They also go
with a subscription plan that no small job shop I know of
would ever go for. What isn't known is that you can purchase
the software without the one years subscription plan (the
software NEVER times out) from Open Mind.
I don't see SolidWorks, Inventor, SolidEdge, etc. catching
up to what thinkdesign now is for many years. On the other
hand, most people will never know how good thinkdesign
really is and what is possible. : ( If one likes to design
or works with cosmetically beautiful things, Global Shape
Modeling allows you to be creative and try many different
approaches and ideas.
Here are some links for you:
This is the person behind Global Shape Modeling :

Here is where you can find videos of Global Shape
Modeling... you will find them under the Industrial Design
section.

Thank you for allowing me to comment on a product I really
believe very strongly in because of who created it and
because of it's incredible technology. I just wish more
people were exposed to it and I doubt that is going to
happen. : (

Jon , Thanks for sharing a vary good point on the software.
I was in contact with them a few years back had them out to the office and even had a chance to play..
I was looking at it for designing of Tubs,Sinks & showers.
This shapes can have some diffaculty, there software did well with it at the time.

How much does it cost?Originally posted by jonbanquer

Who provides support for it and how much
does that cost?
How good is it for 5 axes programming?
How long have you used it and for what?
Where should this subject matter be posted?
It does not seem to be HyperMill unless they
are the same thing. Are they?
I do use autocad, but am currently looking at making the switchOriginally posted by jonbanquer

to think3 or hyperform.
Are you using Version 7 of Hypermill ?Originally posted by rokpyle
I do use autocad, but am currently looking at making the switch
to think3 or hyperform.
If you go the Hyperform route you will always be one version
behind thinkdesign but the software never times out.
What I think would be very beneficial is if Steve and Neil in Detroit
got some Hypermill users to start posting here.
Maybe contact Steve Altman or Neil Price and ask for some support in this regard ? :>)

I am using version 7.1 service pack 4.
We're under maintenance so the switch would
be inexpensive. I am going to talk to the boys
about this site. I think it has a lot of potential
for everybody.
