    design of linear motion system

    Hi everyone,

I need to design a mechanism which can do 1.5" stroke linear motion smoothly in an economic electro-mechanical way. Since this device is used to move the plastic tubing outlet, the working load is not that big. Its working duty cycle is intermittent and more convenient and economic control concept need to be considered(not like putting some linear motorized parts). The pneumatic way can not be used in this application.

Does anyone have some suggestions on that? Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

I assume you just want a point-to-point position, no servo positioning etc?
What environment is it working in? If you want economy, maybe something along the lines of w.wiper mechanism, you can alter them usually for a fixed stroke, and use the remote cable to keep the mechanism at a distance. Also they can be changed to cycle out and back when needed.
