what is the exact use of pattern in powermill?what is its application.I had read
powermill help but that has ambiguity for me.

I use pattern to project a symbol or number for engraving a part. You can draw up an image in powershape save as a .dgk and import model. Position over surface and create a pattern strategy. Hope this helps.

There are many ways to use pattern in PM. It can be used in defyning some toolpaths or use it in some to customize the toolpath even more.
It can be used for letter/symbol engraving, for 2D contouring etc...

benefits of pattern
some times , you can`t reach to the best toolpath, by the powermill default strategies.
at this time patterns help you to create a user toolpath, wich is more look like to your idea.
use the pattern first ` then you would understand it . . .
