We need to build a safety shield on one of our older Enshu VMC's (which is not enclosed) to prevent an operator from reaching into the machine while the spindle is rotating. One suggestion made here is to mount a switch wired in series with the cycle start circuit so that if the shield is not in place, the switch remains open and the machine cannot start. I can see a number of problems with cutting into the cycle start circuit, so that would be very much of a last resort. Does anyone know if this machine has any kind of auxiliary connection that will look for an input to permit cycle start? The controller is a Fanuc 10M. Has anyone found a solution for this kind of issue? I realize that most solutions are machine-specific, and this is a very old CNC machine, but I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
