I use this to connect with our Haas, E07-160 . I use Windows XP and it is just pretty much plug and play. Load the driver first, install device, configure settings to match CNC machine, then you are good to go. I can send and receive with no issues, even 3-5 meg long programs go through without a hitch.

I can't remember the brand I got, but it was just a generic off-the-shelf USB to Serial - like excelmachine said, load the drivers and you are done.

The Haas was an easy one to talk to. The okuma.....that is a different story:tired:

    Ken,

Why haven't you guys gone to bluetooth or a usb out?

And have you tried any of the serial->bluetoth adapters?

All Haas machines ship with USB now. Bluetooth is not a very viable option because of it's complexity. There are 3rd party vendors that sell machine monitoring equipment and software. I have not tried any bluetooth hardware. I have used wireless, RS-232 to USB, and floppy to USB.
    Thanks,
