    SSR and Kress unreliable?

I have some problems controling my Kress spindle with an SSR relay, It turns on at first but if I turn it off it wont start a second time.
I suspect this is because the built in speed control rectifies the voltage?

Is this the problem and is there a way around it?

Yes, it sounds like the speed control is not letting the triac in the SSR turn on. A simple solution is to use a normal (electromechanical) relay to switch on the Kress. You could still use the SSR to switch the relay to avoid having to fuss with your wiring too much.

Had the same problem. The SSR turns on OK but the spindle immediately cuts out. I think it is confused by the leakage current.

Wiring a 15W pygmy light bulb across the spindle makes it work but I went to a mechanical relay as well.
