    build costs?

i want to build a CNC Mill but no matter where i look for parts by the time i have priced just the 3 sets of 2 linear rail and there 2 bearings for each i am already at a price more than i can buy a china CNC 6040 and the shipping of it (well about 1/2 the price)

am i looking in the wrong places?

if i build one it will be about 1000mm X 600mm with a flat work area of 600mm X 500mm and a 4th rotational axis on one end so the gantry just moves up to the center line of it

i have been quoted $50 for each bearing and $90 P/Mt for 15mm slim line rail RSR-W specifications

i am looking at this type of unit but with higher sides and the gantrey 2/3 inset between them but made out of steal frame and Ali bed

THK's are probably a lot more expensive then what's used on the Chinese machines. You might want to check on Abba bearings, which I understand are much cheaper.

Ever heard the phrase "You Get What You Pay For"?

Do remember: the rails and the ball screw are the very core of the machine accuracy. (And THK are good.)

    well my 6040 arrived

the box looked as if a football team had used it as a ball for a game or 2, all the edges where worn out and most of them where open

as i picked it up to help the guy bring it in some alenscrews fell out of the of the holes

cut the 3 bits of tape that was holding the top on it still and it looked as if all the parts had been tosted in from a distance and where all over the place

some minor guards where bent and about 75% of the bolts to put it together where missing and the spindel has one of the coolant spigots broken off

so have sent him a message and am waiting for him to get back to me

Which Ebayer did you buy this machine from?

And please update us when you get any response from the seller. We need to know if he/she is a trustworthy seller.

Hum, well, if they make good all the problems, then not so bad. Maybe they just need to learn about packing for shipping?

i want to install them (2 on each axis) as limit switches and to set 0,0,0 like [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToeWsqf7Dhs&feature=player_embedded"]this[/ame]

but i have no idear how to wire them up to stop the controller

Hi mate, that board looks pretty 'basic'. It appears to have only one input available to you. (Probe).

If you were to wire up all the limit switches in parallel to that one pin, you could have the machine home itself.

I assume you are using Mach3? It allows you to set the home points and the limit points to the same input.

i have a duel boot system linux and win xp

in win xp i am useing mach3

in linux i will be learning and useing emc2 (or what ever it is called)

one thing i have noticed is when i manually jog the unit around its nice and fast but no matter what g-code i run (all downloaded off the net) it moves that slow i carnt even see it moving

now with the homeing and everythig am i right in thinking its some g-code i run to do it or is it built in to mach3 because i carnt find it (hopeless)

Problem 1: Speed very slow when the machine is moving.
Sounds like your 'feedrate' is too slow. In mach3 there is a section that should display your feedrate. Check that the speed in there is not super slow. You can adjust by entering 'F10' or 'F100' or 'F1000' into the G-code area.

    Problem 2: Homing buttons.
That depends on what screen-set you are using. If its the simple one (as in, you haven't customised or installed another) then it is on another screen. Click the buttons at the top that have numbers like 1,2,3,4,5 etc. Find home etc.

If you are going to stick with Mach3, I'd suggest having a thorough read of the Mach3 manual. Its a lot of reading, but it is pretty good.

ok been doing dry runs (spindel not powed up) and its all working good

but today for the first time i tried to run a dry run with the spindle running in the air but the second the VFD turned on (after boot up time on it) my z axis started to creep (changed speed when i changed the speed on the VFD) if i jogged the Z axis up it kept creeping up if i jogged it down it kept creeping down

what the hell is going on?

    Easy one

what the hell is going on?
Yeah, easy one. You may have the Z-axis pulse line 'upside down' and need to invert the output. This is done from Mach.
Also, you obviously have a lot of noise coming from the VFD. This needs fixing. The earth connections may need fixing.

    Cheers

ok i have fixed this problem Z axis is fine now

but i still have the trouble with the VFD making the Z axis move

i am guessing i need to replace the wire for the VFD to spindle but dont know with what

as for the earth as far as i can see everything is earthed and running off the same power point

this is a pain in the ass as i was in need of cutting out some stuff tomoro

    owell

    Hi
Had a lot of noise with my spindle and VFD. I put a shielded cable and earthed it.
Have a look at this thread
