Yes both work fine, but you do need the 2.5 version of LinuxCNC.

If you don't already have that then the easiest way is to install 2.4.x from the LiveCD and then upgrade using the pre-packaged debs from the buildbot.
instructions on how to do this are at LinuxCNC buildbot

    Hi andypugh,
I upgrade to Linuxcnc 2.5 , but in the configuration startmenu or in pncconf I doesnt find the 5i25 .
In what kind of way the 5i25 can be installed ?

    Thanks

The quickest way for me to describe (but not the easiest for you) is:

Start one of the other Mesa configs, such as a 5i23 one.
It will make a copy of the config in your linuxcnc folder.
It will fail to start. That is expected.

Then hand-edit the INI and HAL files
Remove the CONFIG string from the INI file (or change it if you know what you need, edit it to suit). Note that the 5i25 does not use any firmware, so that, at least needs to be removed from the INI file CONFIG string.

Edit any mention of 5i20 in the INI or HAL to say 5i25.

Start linuxcnc from the command line (just type linuxcnc). choose the config you just edited, watch the error messages scroll past, and try to fix them one by one.

If you can wait a few days, I can possibly help more when I am back at my own computer.

If you say which combination you have I can probably find a pre-built sample configuration.

I have recently implemented a 5i25 & 7i76 setup. I followed the instructions at LinuxCNC Documentation Wiki: UpdatingTo2.5, it works great. There is a thread on the card at 5i25 - 7i76 support testers wanted - LinuxCNC Support Forum
