Speed control using mains frequency driven Triac's

Hi all, I am wanting some help to build a simple and more importantly cheap speed controller for a 240v 50Hz single phase 2 pole .55kw motor.
    I have found a circuit on a ST semiconductors pdf(page 6)
    http://www.st.com/internet/com/TECHN...CD00003856.pdf

The circuit uses triggering by pulse train synchronization by the mains voltage. Do you think something like this will work on my motor?

My next question is what value components would I need? (capacitor/resistors/pot and Triac's)
    Would these Triac's suit?

    Or non Logic Triac

Here are 2 screen shots of the pdf and the motor specs(highlighted with red stars)

Thanks very much for your input

Your motor sounds like it might be a split phase motor as shown in fig9 which shows a fan type motor application.
What is your actual application? If this is a lightly loaded application such as the fan shown, it might work, but i would be inclined to look at at other options if the application is more demanding.
These type of controllers do work in the likes of ceiling fans etc, you could pick one of those up and try it.
1ph induction motor speed control can be very touchy in some applications so more would have to be known before definite recommendation can be made.
