Hi Hoss,
I noticed that you ran your printer from an sd card in one of your videos. Do you need a computer hooked up to tell it to start printing and or do an estop or make another of the same part? Or is there a means of controlling the printer without a computer?
Thanks
Sean
Well got the Prusa Friday and have it moving today. So cool for a newb. Anybody using Gen 6 board to control heat bed? My directions just wire direct and electrronics are a challenge for me.
Anybody seen a Gen 6 board capable of 2 extruders like Hoss's?

there are a couple interfaces on thingiverse I may look into for true standalone but my little mini laptop finally has a use running the printer.
I'd feel bad tossing it aside again.
I still can load a program on the sdcard and hit print on the laptop then it's free to work on CAD or slicing etc. and not tax the cpu.
theres a reset button on the ramps that can stop the printer when it's running off the card by itself.

My Gen6 board only has 4 drivers and no connection for heated bed. I think I have a v1(batch 1) board though. I think the new Gen6 deluxe(batch 5) has added heated bed and cooling fan connector. Can't you run the z steppers in parallel off of one driver? I thought I saw that somewhere.
Correct on the Z motors. If you got the Gen 6 from Makerfarm, it came with a splice cable for Z to run them off one driver. I turn the pot up on that one a little. No need to go all the way, just hit the sweet sounding spot and you are good.
Mine doesn't have a version number on the board itself. It was ordered in Feb.
If it did have an extra driver, I don't know what software it would use then. Mine uses Pronterface, Sprinter and I use Slic3r.
Not yet familiar with anything else other than Mach 3. Still waiting on guys to get the extruder temp and heat bed configurations in it and then I might make a swap.
I was told that the heat bed without a temp control would only get to 110C. Not so. Mne was almost 160 C when I checked the other day. Way too hot even for ABS. Consider ordering an MK138 kit to control the bed temp manually.
I didn't realize when I bought the Gen 6 that it didn't control the bed temp as well as Extruder temp. Not enough research on my part.

Are you planning on updating your website with 3d printer information like you have done with the mills? Your videos will get a lot of people into 3d printing that may have not considered it before.
My buddy and I have are thinking that if we were to get a couple of these printers it would give us the ability to practice 3d drawing as it's making parts quicker and cheaper then using the mill. A lot of the same concepts that we can learn will only help us get better on the mill.
I started working on a page on the site, I'll add more as time allows, probably during those long prints.
