    Helical flexible couplers

I have a need for (3) helical flexible couplers with a 1/4" bore on one side
and a 3/8" bore on the other. When I search Ebay and the web it seems
all the suppliers are in China. Does anyone know of a USA source for the
above couplers? Dumpster sells couplers but they are not flexible.

Helical Products have reps across N.A.
There is also Misumi USA who stock a range.
I would suggest paying a bit extra and get stainless if this is for stepper/servo application.

Could you provide a link where these stainless couplers could be purchased online? Thanks AL!

Yes, I looked at the Company given to me by CarveOne and they are a
local distributor. Thanks for the info. It's amazing how everyone can give
me info that would take hours to find on the web. Google and other search
engines seems to be saturated with Chinese companies.
    Thanks for your help!

    [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Ruland-PCR16-6-6-SS-Clamping-Coupling-Stainless/dp/B0060LUGUW]Amazon.com: Ruland PCR16-6-6-SS Clamping Beam Coupling, Stainless Steel, Inch, 3/8" Bore A Diameter, 3/8" Bore B Diameter, 1" OD, 1-1/4" Length, 30 lb-in Nominal Torque: Industrial & Scientific[/ame]

I have 12 of these, PCR16-6-6-SS, They are .375 x .375. I don't know if a split bushing would work to reduce .375 to .250 or a solid sleeve loc-tite to the shaft? Could also machine the sleeve if you think they would work for you.

Helical couplers aren't the best choice for cnc. look into buying something like an oldham coupler.

    McMaster-Carr.

Buy 2 hubs and one disk, that makes a complete coupler. Higher torsional stiffness = less positional error, at least between the leadscrew and the motor..

Thanks for the info, does anyone else have an opinion on these types

    Never used the Oldham type.

I can't see how Oldham couplings would be better than helical couplings:

    * They have a plastic disk that can wear and introduce backlash, helical couplings have no moving parts to wear.

    * The plastic disk could get coated with wood dust and wear faster. Helical couplings have no wear surfaces.

    * They only compensate for parallel misalignment, helical couplings compensate for parallel, angular, and axial misalignment.

About the only real advantages I can see to the Oldham couplings is that they cope with larger parallel misalignments than helical couplings and they are usually a bit more compact.

One disadvantage to Helical is the 'windup' error, myself, I prefer stainless disc couplings, they are sometimes be a bit larger in dia than the two mentioned, but if there is compact versions available.

    Re: Helical flexible couplers

Beam or Helical couplings are flexible shaft couplings designed to transmit torque between shafts.www.krogerfeedback.com
