Called service and described my problem: The cam that actually turns the side mount changer (vf-0e circa 99) is over-rotating. Turning about 30 degrees over the 360 index. The flat is overshooting the switch and alarming.

Service said their is either oil or grease (year dependent) in the gearbox for the carousel drive, and it either leaks out or thins out and allows the thing to turn without enough resistance and thus overrotates. Sounds crazy, using oil viscosity to control a rotational motion..

Pulled the motor and box, and havn't tore into it yet. Checked the pipe plug on top and there is some oil in there.

A) is this a plausible problem?

B) What kind and how much oil goes in the thing?
