    making surface into solid

I am trying to make a solid helix I was able to sweep a circle along a helix so I have a tube. How do I make it a solid or is there another way to go about this?

Using layers, to make it easier on yourself, extract the end of the tubes edges to a new layer, then run the planar command on them (The ends should be planar if you swept a circle). This will create 2 round endcaps. Use stitch surfaces to solid to make it a solid.

I tried what you said and it looks like a solid but the software does not look at it that way. It will let me add it to something but if a subtract it, it only subtracts the surface. I found another way to do it I used half taruses at an angle and added them together to make my spiral. Thanks for your help.
