Hi.

I got G0704 and want to connect Z axis to steper motor as it shows on attached drawing and encountered a problem, since unable to figure out exact tap size on the end of Z axis as it shows on the attached picture.
According to G 0704 manual thread size should be M16-2 metric. But it's incorrect, because I measured it myself and it showed as M16-1.5 or 5/8-18. Please help me with correct thread size, so I can order Shaft Collar per drawing.
Attached picture was found on the net and I cant find the source anymore.

Is there a reason you can't simply measure it?? That's the surest way to KNOW what the actual thread on your particular machine is....

Well i dont quite see the problem. if you measured it and it is M16x1.5 then i guess it is such. go on ahead with your plans

There are NO imperial threads on these machines (other than drawbars, and a very few other specific places where interoperability is required), so it will NOT be 5/8-18. If you really want to make sure buy a 16x1.5 nut and see if it fits....

It's fairly easy to find M16x2.0, mcmaster even carries them but Misumi USA seems to carry the M16x1.5 for $6.38.

I like the design with the pinch collar. Not sure I've seen that yet.

I would beef up that mounting plate though. Especially if you plan on making it out of aluminum.
