after seeing a commercial of em sculpting ice with chainsaws i had this thought of what about doing that with the cnc my prob is mines mdf and i don't think the ice and it would get along to well just wondering if anyone else had tried this ..................

Several thing to think about here:

(1) Encalpulate all your wood in epoxy (it's a traditional technique from wooen boat building... well if the last 20 years can ba called traditional). Pick up some inexpensive epoxy from some bulk dealer like jgreer.com

(2) Ice chips do melt and your motors are electrical. Not a good combination.

(3) I assume your CNC router is in a walk in freezer or in the great (cold) outdoors?

Mill it out of something else. Make a rubber mold over that, and cast ice sculptures in the rubber mold.

At least when casting ice is a lot easier to do the melt than when casting aluminum. No furnace needed.

there is a place in sunny Las Vegas that does machine ice with a commercial cnc router and it is in a walk in freezer, I do know that the controller is outside the freezer, other than that , nothing else had to be done to the machine it self

There is a guy in Grand Rapids, MI who does this--great work. I have actually sold him some cutting tools in the past. He has a basic CNC router in a freezer that he has used for years. Works great.
