    Two Stepper Motor Questions...

    Hi,

I ordered some of the 381oz stepper motors from Keling along with a G540.

The motor sheet says A+, A-, B+, and B- which I am assuming goes with the G540's A, /A, B, /B respectively. Their docs say that you can swap A and A/ if you don't get the correct direction which makes sense, but couldn't you also swap the A set and B set to do the same thing as long as the swap was A-B and A/-B/?

Second question has to do with the trim adjustment for motor smoothness? What exactly does this tweak? What does it sound like when adjusted and not adjusted properly?

    Thanks,

    Alan

    Just a guess.

If one coil is inverted in relation to the other, the motor will buzz and not move.

So if the direction of rotation is wrong you invert both A/A- and B/B-.

As to the other question, I do not own a G540 so i will keep quiet and read.

    NO!
You can swap A and A-, or B and B-, but if you swap an A for a B, you'll kill most drives.

I thought I read somewhere that it smooths the linearity of the motor??

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my example, I am not talking about swapping A for a B on its own which would lead to one winding on A and B. I was talking about swapping the entire windings with each other for example:

    A and B swap
    -AND-
    A- and B- swap

    Thanks,

To put it another way, don't mix an A wire with a B wire or you will likely kill the drive.

The POT controls the cross-over distortion of the sine wave. Tweak it to get the least vibration at low speeds.
