    Question 3D TOOLPATH

    Hello,
I am trying to get this part ready to cut and for some reason it is not working for me. I am limited in my 3d experience so it may be something simple. the files attached are for simple wheel. I have a 3/8" or a 1/4" ball mill to make the part. The part is 3/4" thick and I need it to be cut free at the end of the program. can someone help me get the toolpaths and code for this? I am using X3 and Mach3 on my Router (I don't have a lathe) if needed. Any help here would be appreciated.

    Thanks

NOTE: the Mastercam file is attached as a .txt file, just rename the extension to .mcx and it should work.

I used Solids > Revolve and then save what you had as a STP file.

The center hole size was to be 1/8" but I will do that on a second opp. I can get it into a solid but the toolpaths/gcode is where I am getting hung up. Thanks!

Go with 1/4" ball mill. Use Toolpath > Surface Finish > Contour

I'll try that again with your file. it wasn't working right with my file. The verify looked really rough and didn't cut the part out at the end of the program.

Something is not right withthe way I am doing it. Anyone wanna take a shot at making the G-code for this with a 1/4" ballmill at .03" depth cuts? I can't believe I am having trouble with such a simple shape.

That looks like what I am trying to do except that it mills the od first and for some reason the center "hub" is getting milled out when there is no hole shown on the model. I am gonna play with it and see if I can get those figured out and see how you set it all up. Thanks for all the help so far.

I think I got it. Gonna call it a night and do a test run tomorrow after work.

Thanks for the help! I'll let you know how it turns out.

I did not set the center hole area as a drive surface. You can also select a starting point in the center.
