I'll be honest, I have no clue.
If it's not nailed down, it's mine.
If I can pry it loose, it's not nailed down.

Looks like a P.O.S. Pack it back up and send it to me - I will figure it out eventually.

Only a true, hard-core CNC nut would bid on something when they have no idea what the heck it is!!! Nice work!

That's so true, this is funny (in a good way). Seems like something I would do, the cool factor of the thing is worth what you got it for. I just love mechanical devices, even if I don't know what they do or what they are for. Hope someone chimes in here who knows .

I would have bid on it had I seen it.....but I am used to working cluelessly.

It looks like a positioner platform for a medical device - maybe dental X-ray??

It has a very high cool factor, that's for sure. Just having it sitting in a shop or on a desk would make one appear more intelligent, I am sure!

If that's a gearbox between the two parts it could be pretty useful. I have robot arms on the brain today though.

I don't think it measures anything quite the big!

But I agree it will make you look more intellegent just having it laying around. (just as long as knowone askes any questions!)
    thanks

It looks like a high precision drafting arm to me. The one I have on my old table doesn't look quite like that, but close.

As far as buying stuff that you're unsure of, I have a buddy here that is constantly asking me what the heck he just bought at an auction. It must be a disease!

I like the "GAS" acronym as coined by anoel - I think it fits this situation perfectly.

I agree that this gizymo could be a drafting arm, but I have never seen one quite that heavy or precise, but I am sure it could be. I would hate to scoot that thing around on my monitor - seems like it would scratch it up.

Oh - you mean manual drafting? Oh. I see.

Whatever it is, it is a nice one!

That is absolutely the best price I have ever seen one of those go for.
That is used for measuring who got the best deal.

Next time somebody tells you I just got the best deal ever, just whip that out and say "How does it measure up to this"

Other than that can't help ya.

I know what it is, I've got several of those in the shop, comes in real handy when you need it though. I keep them stored with the rest of my least used tools.

It's a left handed feeble fetzer fixer.
If it's not nailed down, it's mine.
If I can pry it loose, it's not nailed down.
