I like it. I have thought about wooden cnc router construction, and may try in the future with leftover motion parts.. only downside is wood instability? are you going to dual drive the gantry? one screw down the middle and that gantry box will probably break itself apart if machining down the side. know what I mean? any way to move table legs to ends to use all of your bearing rail?

Hanging those supported rails upside down like that is not the best idea, they are weakest in that direction with only 1 out of 5 rows of bearings in contact with the rail.

It looks nice though, solid looking table!

I think in this case it's fine since the gantry doesn't look that heavy. The DataCut design uses the same principle, and that gantry must weigh at least 150lbs...Plus it wil be strongest in direction of force when plunging and cutting...

Ya your probably right, I just know that on my old machine there is a nice deep groove worn in by the linear bearing on the hardened rod from a single row of bearings being the only contact from bearing to rail. I was quite surprised to see this. Surely having only one row of contact will at least reduce the lifespan of the bearing or rail, but it will probably be good enough for a while.

    Hi

Just looking at this and have an idea.

If you put the two drive belts on the inside of the linear rails it will look much neater without being much less strong.
