Questions about an old control/ its psu/ a new psu/ old servos

got an old saeilo robotool mill with dead control

on the main board that receives power from the transformer
    it reads "160 volts"

the motors are labeled "62volts / 3.75 amps"

220v is fed into main step down transformer to 120v
then to rectifier then to main power board for the amps

    1. why are 160 volts being fed to the servo amps if the motors 62 volts?

    2. if i buy a new psu for the servos should it just be 62 volts and add up the amps?

sorry if these are dumb questions
    thank you for your time

What make/model are the drives used in the old control?
It is normal to size at least 112% P.S. voltage above motor terminal voltage.
But that 120vac secondary seems a bit high?
Did you measure the P.S. DC voltage?

    hello sir
i am thankful of and honored by your post

my electrician friend was here yesterday and we intended on measuring the output but ultimately did not

i am planning on going with the dugong 80v/20a drives
and decided to just go ahead and buy a new supply

if the dugong is 80v do i want to supply it with 62v x 112% ?
or just get a supply for 62v?

here is the one i was looking at:

    Antek - PS-8N63

i want to make sure because i am on the verge of ordering everything
as the project is just waiting for components

the old drives just say robotool
and the power distribution board says applied microbotics

i will take pics later today more than likely and post them
right now i am tearing old j head apart to deliver to the guy that bought it
to make room for the new guy

With a 62VDC supply you will get just something under max. rpm.

Well if you think you can live with slightly less rpm than the motors are rated for then it will be OK.

    i see what you mean

can you recommend supply ratings for me that will do the trick?

thanks again for your help sir

I would tend to look at what the setup had previously to see if anything can be re-used, do you have the schematics or machine drawings?

that was my original intention - to reuse the power supply section
and maybe some of the relay stuff -

but to ditch the old drives

dont have any schematics or diagrams
but i will take and post pics later to give you an idea of what was going on in there

    my plan is:

EtherSmoothStepper and basic bob for it
    3 dugong 80/20 drives
    power supply at ?v?a

With those motors (3?) you would need ~ 350 to 500va power supply, 65vdc to 80vdc.

so youre saying ill get a little more bazing out of the motors
as long as i stay within those confines but above 62V

i really appreciate your help sir
