Hi I have a centroid M 400 on a Bridgeport series 1 the problem i am having is when I probe something in the x I am .020 off . but when I use the ring gauge it is perfect I am at a loss.

be sure to check the tool number that the probe is set up for, then check the diameter value for that tool number. the value should be the diameter minus the pre travel which is specific to each stylus you use. how to determine the pre travel is explained in the probe setup instructions. i attached a copy for you in case you can't find yours. just review the setup instructions and i think it will solve your issue. good luck.
Thanks For That Info I really appreciate it I will let you Know How I make out .
PS when the tech set my machine he did not have a copy of probe set up to leave me so I never had a copy till now Thanks again
Is it the reported position that is 0.020" off, or the reported dimension?
If measured dimensions are right, but positions are off, you probably need to re-center the stylus (eliminate runout).
If center positions are right, but measured dimensions are off, then you need to calibrate the stylus diameter and pretravel, as Keith suggested.
Does the error only show up when you use the single-axis probing cycle (F7 on the probing cycles menu) to set a part zero position? The single-axis probing cycle cannot be used for setting part zero locations; it is only useful for making measurements.
