    Mesa 5I25+7i76 5V I/O

    Hi

I have above combination and I am a bit upset reading in the manual that the I/O field ist sourcing output, starting from 12V...
Now my problem is that I have 5V Inputs on the drives error lines and enabling inputs.
    What shall I use? relays?

    Thanks in advance

    Julian

The 7I76 uses larger field I/O voltage for higher noise immunity
most industrial I/O is 24VDC and the 7I76 is oriented to industrial machine retrofits/OEMs so is optimized for this application.

There are a couple of options if you need 5V I/O. For outputs you can divide the 12V down to 5V Some enable inputs use OPTOs so this may be as simple as a series resistor. For a couple of 5V outputs you can use spare step/dir signals (as output bits instead of step/dir) these need to be the last step/dir pins since step/dir pins are assigned starting with channel 0 to N

You can also use the other 5I25 connector for 5V I/O.

The latest rev 7I76 firmware will allow 5V field I/O but its is normally not suggested because of noise issues (it still requires a 8 to 32V VIN)

I use a mixed set of Dugong and Granite Devices Servo Amps in my machine.
Both are used to be used in PC environments therefore have 5V Signals...

I see, thanks for your answer.

    best regards,

So if you want to, you can return your 7I76 and we can update it to firmware that supports 5V operation. Another option would be another daughtercard could be used that supports your drives better. Note that the 5I25 will work with standard breakout boards as well. If you have an unsupported one, I can easily add support for it.
